Planning Return to Columbia on Sept 4

I am planning to make a return to Columbia, although I will not be very mobile yet. This will however let me take care of my business and see my friends.

As it stands, I won't be able to put pressure on my right foot until December and can't walk until January. This injury is requiring a bit of planning now. Especially since it is not legal or covered by insurance to drive with a cast. I am looking at bus routes and possibly a wheel chair to be able to do shopping and the like. If anyone has any thoughts about wheel chairs please make a post or drop me an email.

Even though this is limiting I have never lost sight of the fact that I will get better or that it could have been much, much worse. I am probably happier now than before the accident, oddly enough.

My friend Holly called from Florida!

Thanks for the call Holly! Being unable to move about right now I really appreciate all of the attention.

Some of the visitors I had on the 2nd trip.

Pictured in order are Don and Twila with my mom and dad, Blaze (the motorcycle riding cat), Kyle, as well as Pat and Kristy.

Other visitors include the Pham Phamily, Selena, Lene, and Mike Cusack.

Thanks to everyone that has come by and to those that wanted to. It has been far from boring.

Post surgery x rays. Scary.

On the road to recovery!

Good News
Surgery will be on Wed. the 22nd at University Hospital. I will be back on the road to recovery soon. A cast is the next item on the list!!! Hurray!!! For the next surgery I will have a bunch of plates and screws put in my ankle and leg. It will be a fairly comprehensive fix backed up by a long period of rest. It will still be December before I can put weight on it and probably January before I am really "fixed".

New Editor on Staff

My friends at Starbucks in Columbia have brought Curious George to lend me a hand while the work load is especially high here.

Curious is known for his work with PBS as well as in numerous books.

Thanks CG, Jessica, and my Starbucks family!

Time Line / update

  • 3 weeks until 2nd surgery
  • 14 weeks till pressure can be put on right foot
  • screws aren't coming undone
  • problems (weird sounds, feelings, and pain) coming from the floating bones in ankle and leg, see xrays
  • The Ninja (my first bike) is a confirmed total by State Farm (the good guys in the insurance world). They gave me a fair market value for the 250.

Screw loosening up!!

The number three screw in my leg is coming undone, slowly. This is causing all the bones in my leg to become out of alignment and very painful at times, even with drugs.

Creak, creak, shreak. Creak, creak, shreak.

Note the blood coming out of the heel and the calf area. It was more scary in real life.

The Ninja

My dear first bike. I loved this thing when others (riding 600cc or 1000cc bikes) said it was slow junk. 60 mpg, sub 6 second acceleration, and inexpensive parts. Good handling. What isn't to love?

These are rated the number one beginner sports bike.

where it happened

This is where the accident happened. No reason for it yet determined, just poof and down I went!

  • Traveling at a slow 30-40 mph.
  • While wearing racing boots, gloves, jacket with crash padding and spine protector.
  • Possible oil on road surface is number one suspect.
